Regular price $18.60 Sale price $9.99 Save $8.61Fritillaria meleagris L. is one of the best known species of Fritillaria in cultivation, noted for its checkering and many common names such as "Snake's head fritillary". It is from Europe having become naturalised in Great Britain, and is found in wet meadows. There is a less common all white variety (often called Fritillaria meleagris unicolor alba) and there can be two or three flowers per stem.
The nodding, bell-shaped flowers emerge in striking shades of plum purple and ivory, painted with a complex geometric pattern in deep rosy-purple and cream. Who knows, they just might entice woodland fairies to indulge in a rousing game of chess! These dainty blooms are fantastic for cut arrangements and require very little space in gardens. Slender, silvery-green foliage provides a gorgeous backdrop for the flowers as they carefully weave between fuller spring perennials. Enjoy!
